This album will always have a special place in my heart. I’m grateful to have had the trust of my co-producer Daniel Mackenzie (who pitched the idea of me co- producing with him), leaders Brian & Jenn Johnson as well as Joel Taylor (Bethel Music CEO), and the trust of each of the members of the artists and team as all of us worked together to push ourselves as writers, musicians, and vocalists. I was involved not only in the production but also extensively in the songwriting - helping write 7 of the songs on the project. The Bethel Music team also trusted me to concept the art direction for the album cover — which was such an exciting shoot — setting up a living room’s worth of furniture out in the Pacific Ocean as the tide came in and tossed them all around? Wow.

“Tides” became Bethel Music’s first Billboard #1 Christian album — completely independent of any major distribution — and was Bethel’s first album to land in the top 40 of the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart, debuting at #30. Truly remarkable for an independent church music movement. Difficult to say, but it’s quite possible that this album has had a decade or more of impact on the sound of what “worship music” contains. Of all the albums I’ve done, this one is mentioned to me over and over as “the one that changed everything”, especially from worship musicians I meet day in and day out in my work. Humbling.
